USA Hockey team celebrates

Last night the USA hockey team managed a win against the almost guaranteed winners – Team Canada. Those who never tuned in to NHL Hockey were dazzled by a game of high intensity. This wasn’t just a game of hockey, it was a battle of nations. This game was the definition of ‘edge-of-seat thriller’ action. In true come from behind fashion the USA team managed a 5-3 victory over Canada.

Is it time to celebrate? I would say not quite. The USA team would still need to conquer the Russian team, considered by many to be the best in the world with star player Alexander Ovechkin. Despite this fact, Olympic hockey remains a unifying force for each country participating.

This win brings up a very important point. NHL owners have threatened to pull their players from the winter Olympics. This makes financial sense considering each team would have their players return battered and bruised from the intense competition. However, I believe that the NHL should use the uniting element of the Olympic games to garner attention fro the NHL in the US and Canada. Advertisement slots during the Olympic hockey games could help draw in would-be hockey fans who otherwise would not be interested.
